Ponderosa Eau de Parfum

Pinus ponderosa is an iconic tree of the interior lands of the American west. Its range spans from Mexico to Canada. For many years this conifer has enamored me, with its deep red bark, towering stature, unique ecological role, relationship to fire and of course... its beautifully fragrant bark.
The scent of this tree is particularly potent during the heat of summer, and the park like settings of a ponderosa forest will be filled with this rich, balsamic, vanilla spice. When you get closer to these trees and place your nose into a deep crack of the bark you're met with a variety of fragrant notes ranging from strawberries, butterscotch, chocolate, caramel, spice and resinous smoke.

Each location, stand, region carries unique terroir (taste of place) -- for the stands located here in my home state of Oregon, they're deeply vanillic, resinous, spiced and slightly smoky.
Being the perfumer that I am, I needed to capture this. Perfume and scent has through the ages been a means of connection to place and memory. It is a deeply personal, and dare I say spiritually stimulating way to reconnect to the spirit of place, to find comfort, and remind our nervous systems of that calm we feel within the space of these beautiful trees.
This Eau de Parfum has taken months to process, from gathering bark, resins, needles and cones to infuse in ethanol -- and allowing a deep maturation of the perfume concentrate itself.
The creation of this perfume is a meditation of the slow, evolving characteristics of each note and ingredient. There are many layers and subtleties that will bloom on warm skin.
This is a predominately natural perfume, therefore you will not find excessive tenacity in its wear time. It will shapeshift and evolve, yet also maintain its glorious vanilla and balsamic pine heart.
Top notes: rare ponderosa needle and cone essential oil
Mid notes: allspice, tonka bean, dry maple sugar
Base notes: bourbon vanilla, fossilized amber extract, amber accord, ponderosa bark tincture
